EDUCATIONAL  PROGRAMS

The museum’s Living History programs reach local audiences as well as travelers and visitors through the museum’s Canary Tweets and virtual programs and resonates with visitors of all ages.

Programs align with Virginia Studies, U.S. History and Civics making history relevant, engaging, and standards based. School programs for students share Mrs. Wilson’s story, “From Wytheville to the White House” exploring life in the 19th and 20th centuries through Edith’s life as a businesswoman and as First Lady of the United States. Special programs are designed for first and fourth grade classes.

In addition to regular programming, a new educational program at the museum, “Legacy & Leadership: Inspiring the Next Generation” is a motivational and leadership development program designed for high schoolers aiming to empower students as they begin planning their futures whether that includes college, a career, or other pursuits.

Students leave with:
  • increased motivation and clarity about their goals
  • improved understanding of leadership through historical and modern lenses
  • development of personal leadership goals and values
  • stronger connection between local history and personal identity.

The museum offers programs on-site, as well as an off-site programs, “Edith…On the Road!”
